Special Events Volunteer Specialist (Part-Time)

The Special Events Specialist (SES) is responsible for administrative details, organizing volunteers and executing successful Special Events at the zoo that appeal to the public, build awareness for the zoo and increase revenue. They will be responsible for taking the lead on assigned events. This position reports to the Special Events Manager (SEM).

Main Job Functions:

Event Execution

• Provide volunteers with roles per event as needed.
• Work with internal and external committees and volunteers
• Keep detailed records of volunteers’ information and assignments
• Attend zoo events as event support or event lead
• Assist Special Events Coordinator (SEC) with events that focus on children and families that are entertaining and educational
• Assist SEM with events that focus on growing zoo revenue
• Assist SEC with hands on crafts/activities for children to enjoy during events
• Work independently and as part of a team to create exceptional guest experiences
• Work most events on calendar and take direction from event lead on those events where this position is not event lead.
• Assist with researching new event ideas or enhancing current events.
• Completing event team notes as applicable.
• Provide reports in a timely manner on attendance, revenue, expenses and marketing efforts for each event to the SEM

This is a part-time, hourly position. Work schedule is 3 days a week (Friday, Saturday and a 3rd flex day). Average work week 20-25 hours

Qualifications:

• Prefer a bachelor’s degree in event management, marketing, communications or related field.
• Must have strong work ethics
• Must be highly organized, outgoing, positive, collaborative, strategic, independent, fun, creative, self-starter who is able to multi-task within a busy work environment
• Must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), proven success in event planning, and strong relationship-building skills
• Must be prepared to drive a golf cart, occasionally work outside in all seasons, do a large amount of walking, standing, lifting, and carrying of event materials
• Prefer 1-3 years of successful experience in event planning and management. Marketing experience preferred
