The City of Glenarden is seeking a friendly, hardworking, and hospitality-driven individual for the position of Special Events Crew Member. The incumbent is responsible for setting-up and breaking down of events as well as cleaning and maintaining banquet functions. The position reports to the Events Manager or in her absence the Special Events Crew Chief.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for the set-up and breakdown of the Gold Room and/or Community Center with designated tables, chairs, and additional equipment prior to events.
- Responsible for clean-up of events as needed, which includes mopping, vacuuming, removing garbage and trash cleaning and mopping bathrooms, hallways, lobby, entrance to kitchen and dance floor.
- During events, monitor and maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, which includes supplying toilet paper and soap, clean counter tops, sinks, urinals, and commodes.
- After each event, breakdown tables, chairs and reset to standard setup; or prepare for the next scheduled event.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of storage closet; ensure bathrooms are cleaned, remove trash, wipe down shelves/counters; sweep; and remove non-floor closet items and transport to proper areas.
- Stocks and maintains supplies as needed by the Events Manager and/or Special Events Crew Chief.
- As required by the Events Manager and/or Special Events Crew Chief, clean bathrooms no less than twice a week, which includes supply with toilet paper and soap, clean counter tops, sinks, urinals, and commodes.
- Cleans kitchen equipment as needed in preparation for catering use.
- Assists in removing all trash and garbage to the City dumpster, as needed.
- Must be available to work rotating shifts, as needed to include days, late nights, and weekends.
- Assists the Department of Public Works with custodial duties within and outside of the Municipal Center.
Events are scheduled based on the current bookings calendar, to include weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Candidates must be available for shifts and will be scheduled for up to 20 hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least one years of experience in facility maintenance, conference center or banquet facility operation.
- Valid Driver’s License or reliable transportation, mandatory.
- Must possess a strong “can do” attitude.
- Knowledge of coordinating and executing set-up of both large and small events.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations, such as safety, security, and public assembly regulations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, to include Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Skill in interpersonal communication both in person and by telephone, with high professionalism.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community.
- Ability to coordinate and execute complexity of meetings and/or Special Events as needed.
- Ability to speak one or more languages is helpful, particularly Spanish.
- Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
- Ability to follow instructions and provide clear directives to staff.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to operate equipment. If selected, the candidate must have a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record, pass a background check; and a drug and alcohol screening. Starting salary $18.25 - $21.16 per hour, depending on experience.
