The Special Education Specialist will act as a coach to the Student Services Department by working with teachers, related service providers, and classified staff in supporting students in the Student Services Department. Primary responsibilities include systems-level support for the development and management of autism services, interventions for managing maladaptive behaviors, data review, and oversight of programs. The Special Education Specialist will work collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services as well as the Director for Student Services to provide leadership to the Student Services Department, assist in refining IEP processes and procedures, develop and execute a comprehensive professional development plan, as well as implement best practices for behavior intervention.
Requirements:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with any of the following Endorsements in Learning Behavior Specialist, School Social Work, School Psychology, or Speech/Language Therapy
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the profession, including service to low-incidence populations
• Knowledge of ISBE Special Education rules and regulations
• Experience in managing the IEP process and procedures with a focus on the FBA/BIP process
• Deep knowledge of behavioral characteristics typically associated with Autism, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Anxiety, etc.
• Understanding of research-based interventions and specialized curricula to support learners who struggle to regulate and manage their emotions
• Ability to coach others to apply effective behavior management and instructional techniques
