Job description

Position: Paraprofessional

Department: Exceptional Education

Supervisor: Director of Exceptional Education

Type: Full-Time, 10-Month, Hourly

Position

In accordance with the Explore! Community School mission and values, paraprofessionals work directly with students with disabilities in the General and Special Education setting. Paraprofessionals work collaboratively with teachers and leaders in a variety of academic, behavioral and physical tasks. The goal of the paraprofessional is to encourage students to actively engage in the learning process and become more independent.

Responsibilities

  • Provides small group instruction under the guidance and supervision of certificated teachers and staff members
  • Implements students’ individualized education plans (IEPs), safety plans, and/or behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
  • Facilities and models appropriate social interactions and behaviors among students
  • Monitors, collects and records students’ behavioral and/or academic performance as directed by the Exceptional Education and/or General Education Teacher
  • Helps students develop productive learning and studying habits
  • Assists students with toileting and/or personal hygiene needs
  • Participates in professional development opportunities and professional learning communities (where available)
  • Assists students loading and unloading the bus or car, transporting students in their wheelchairs, etc.
  • Supervises children during meal times, transition times, and other miscellaneous events, such as school assemblies or recess times

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work with children in developmentally appropriate and kind ways
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team with a commitment to his/her own learning
  • Ability to remain neutral and calm, even in stressful situations
  • Flexible attitude
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Additional skills that enhance students’ academic experience (e.g. multi-lingual, musician, etc.) highly sought

Compensation

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package including healthcare, retirement, paid holidays, and generous paid time off. The hourly compensation rate is commensurate with years of related experience and degrees earned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
