Summary:

The Special Assets Manager is responsible for overseeing the Collections Department within the bank, ensuring efficient and compliant collection processes while minimizing credit losses. This role involves managing a team of collection professionals, implementing effective strategies to recover outstanding debts, and collaborating with other departments to mitigate risks associated with non-performing loans. The Special Assets Manager must possess a deep understanding of banking regulations, legal compliance, and negotiation techniques to successfully resolve complex collection cases.

Primary Responsibilities:

Management and supervision of the Loan Servicing Team.

Collection of bankruptcy – handles all phases of bankruptcy matters on behalf of the bank.

  • Collection of accrual loans
  • Collection of 11 – 24 day delinquency
  • Collection of 25 – 999 delinquency
  • Collection of Charged Off Deposit accounts

Report to Management monthly at Charge-Off Meeting

Work with Loan Dept on collecting Forced Placed Insurance premiums

Provide past due reports and documented collection efforts to the Board

Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings; provide daily supervision to the staff.

Maximizes service levels through scheduling, employee coaching and performance management.

Provides guidance to the staff in customer service and operational areas, including daily activities and complex operational issues.

Contacts problem customers.

  • Conducts face-to-face interviews.
  • Devises plans for collecting.
  • Proposes new sources of funds.
  • Restructures loan terms.
  • Manages liquidations of collateral.
  • Initiates legal proceedings to affect loan collections.
  • Accepts and logs payments.
  • Monitors accounts to ensure that payments are being made.
  • Documents collection efforts.

Reviews loan files and other related documents pertaining to loans assigned for collection.

Collaborates with Loan Officers and or pertinent personnel regarding collection efforts, payment histories, etc. Determines the bank’s collateral position.

Protects/inspects collateral.

Accepts garnishment servings – answers interrogatories and monitors until money is sent to seizing party.

Backup support to the SBA Lending function. Files all Guaranty Purchase requests.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field, OR equivalent experience.
  • Several years of experience in a similar role within the banking or financial industry.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulations, compliance requirements, and legal aspects related to debt collection.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in using collection software and MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations with professionalism and tact.
