Primary Duties of the Interpreter:
The primary duty is to provide interpreting services for Hispanic and Latino patients and guardians. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting the staff in reviewing and discussing the health history information and indicating what treatment the patient needs at that visit
- Assisting Hispanic children in the treatment room by translating information as given by the dentist or assistant to the child
- Translating post-operative instructions to parents and patients as given by the dentist or assistant
- Translating information to Hispanic patients as given by the executive director when discussing broking appointment letters or dismissals
- The interpreter can translate a 1-page document that is repeatedly used with all patients with the clinical staff present, for example, post-operative instructions
- Assisting patients with completion of paper work and in understanding policies and procedures
- Greeting patients, answering phones, checking in and checking out patients as needed
- Assisting with answering incoming phone calls if receptionists are on the phone
- Answering and monitoring the Hispanic telephone line and messages – checking messages on the answering machine for Spanish line by 8:00 am, after lunch, and regularly during the day and returning phone messages
- Assisting with scheduling the and re-scheduling patients as needed
- Creating excuses for school/work for Hispanic patients
- Verifying that the Hispanic marker is set on all appropriate accounts in Dentrix and updating the account is the interpreter is no longer needed for the patient
- Confirming appointments for the Hispanic patients two days ahead
- Assisting with maintaining a broken appointment rate of 15% or less for each provider
- Creating forms in Spanish
- Helping with creating and decorating bulletin board and office
- Maintaining and following the office privacy policies and procedures
- Willing to perform any front office duties when necessary
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the executive director
- Willing to work 40 hours or overtime per week when needed if full-time
Interpreter Requirements:
Interpreters must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Additional secondary education is preferred.
Interpreters will have to successfully complete a basic formal medical interpreting class or will enroll in a course and complete it within 6 months of employment.
Additional course work will be expected if available in this area.
Certification as an interpreter is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
