Objective:
To promote the general sales effort at desired price levels to maximize sales revenue and profits. This position will be responsible for all sales and presentations of company products and programs within a specific defined territory. This position will focus on targeting new accounts, increasing existing accounts’ purchases, and working in conjunction with Broker/Distributor Representatives, while promoting both PVG and Proven Winners’ marketing objectives. Nurture and maintain constructive and respectful working relations and communication with all internal components of Pleasant View that are integral to successful sales and order fulfillment. As an integral member of the sales team provide feedback from outside sales activity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop Customer Relationships:
- Partner with the customers to inquire about their needs, both current and future, at every opportunity
- Follow-up with customers after shipment to ensure their expectations were exceeded
- Sell additional products for future shipments
- Timely phone calls and communication
- Personal visits to customer sites
- Travel with broker representatives to customer sites
- Distribution of product sales information
- Attend and participate in Trade Shows
- Keeps conversant with industry trends
Facilitate Internal Company Relationships:
- Work with all internal Pleasant View personnel/departments to assure optimum success of product sales and delivery.
On Road Sales:
- 70% of time devoted to on-road sales
- Targeting accounts and increasing existing customer purchases
- Personal visits and visits with broker representatives to customer sites
New Customer Development:
- Cold calls and prospecting
- Trade Show follow up
- Referral(s) follow up
Communication and Administrative:
- Participates as a member of Sales Team
- Participate in weekly and monthly sales department meetings to provide customer feedback and direction for company
- Provide pertinent information to appropriate department(s) compiled from on-road activity
- Bi-weekly reports – contacts, mileage, etc.
Brand Building:
- Introduce, define, expand and consistently maintain the existence of the Pleasant View and Proven Winners brand in the marketplace
- Customer education through seminars and presentations
- Conduct onsite “Proven Winners” Certified Garden Center training
Program Development:
- Provides direction in liner sales planning
- Evaluating new market opportunities
- New product development in conjunction with Sales and Marketing departments
Sales Plan(s):
- Accountable for implementation of sales plan with minimum of 10% growth
- Working closely with Top 100 Accounts, and Key/Targeted Broker Reps
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and self-motivation skills required
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
- Effective negotiation skills required
- Demonstrate ability to handle customer related issues which involves researching, investigating, determining appropriate resolution and follow-through in action and communication
- Ability to work in a manner that exhibits trust and integrity with colleagues, customers and sales representatives
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize accordingly
- Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills in a fast paced environment
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Associate Degree or equivalent in marketing, sales and/or horticulture preferred
- 3-5 years sales experience with verifiable track record
- Strong proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Previous horticultural background preferred
Physical Demands:
This position requires the candidate to sit for extended periods, stand moderately and does require the ability to bend and lift when necessary.
