We're seeking a Software QA Engineer to join our QA team responsible for validating our innovative new designs. To be successful in this role, you’ll learn about a wide range of use cases from live retail stores and apply that understanding to testing our newest, cutting-edge products. You'll develop, publish, and implement test plans and quality assurance standards. Define and track quality assurance metrics such as defect densities and open defect counts. Must have a solid knowledge of quality assurance methodologies and best practices. Familiar with UNIX (Linux, FreeBSD, etc) and Windows development environments. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Responsible for coordinating a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a senior manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.



What You'll Do as a Software QA Engineer:

Test Plan Creation & Maintenance

  1. Test plans are derived from functional specifications and product requirements as outlined by Engineering and Product Management respectively.
  2. Test cases are developed from a test plan.
  3. Testing is conducted in accordance with the test plan and test case documents.
  4. Test plans are updated appropriately when defects are found after release from QA.
  5. Copies of test plans and supporting engineering documents are placed under version control regularly to ensure document integrity.
  6. Appropriate uses of testing automation is identified, implemented, and maintained.

Product QA & Release

  1. All released products are tested completely, as specified by the test plan, prior to release.
  2. The testing environment is kept in a consistent state as required for completing the appropriate test plan.
  3. Defects found during testing are entered into the defect-tracking tool in a timely manner with appropriate information for the engineers to address the issue.
  4. Coordination with resources (engineers, other testers, deployment personnel, etc.) to ensure complete testing, timely deliveries, and appropriate product hand-off.
  5. All reported defects for a release are cleared (closed, deferred, etc.) before the release from QA is completed.
  6. Provides guidance to other team members on how to proceed with release issues.

Other Support Issues

  1. Test environment requirements are supplied to the engineers before testing is scheduled to commence on the product.
  2. Defects found after release of product from QA are investigated in a timely manner and reported via HubSpot.
  3. All documentation necessary to support other groups on the release of the product is prepared and released with the product.
  4. Testing issues are identified early and escalated appropriately.
  5. Organized and efficient, and able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
  6. Estimates testing time accurately, works to a schedule and completes testing assignments on time and with high quality.
  7. Works and communicates with others effectively.

What We Need From You:

  1. A comprehensive understanding of the software QA processes including test plan creation, test plan execution, and defect tracking.
  2. Proficiency in the following technologies: UNIX environments (Linux, FreeBSD, etc), relational databases (SQL) and scripts, and testing automation technologies.
  3. The ability to produce the appropriate documentation to accompany released software.
  4. The ability to accurately estimate the testing time required, keep on task, and deliver results according to the scheduled timeframe.

This role is located in San Diego, CA. It is not a remote role. We are looking for local candidates or candidates who are willing to relocate themselves to San Diego for this role.


Education and Experience:

A minimum of 5 years software QA experience in a Web or software application development environment, Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

Salary: $85,000 to $105,000 a year, DOE
