About the role: This internship is part of the Rising TIDE program. Elsevier created its Rising TIDE (Tomorrow, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) internship program to foster inclusion and diversity, provide individuals with work experience in the corporate world so that we can develop a pipeline of talent for entry level individuals for post-graduation opportunities. We are seeking a Software Engineering Intern to join our Health Markets Platform team.

About the team: The Software Engineering Intern will be part of a small development squad on this highly mission-driven, innovative healthcare technology platform focused on developing our medical knowledge graph. Our squads enjoy full autonomy regarding how they go about delivering against long and short-term goals, helping to ensure alignment and quality.

Responsibilities

+ Working to learn the relevant technologies and systems in place. Complete clearly defined tasks and communicate when something is blocking.

+ Making an impact by delivering features, refactoring existing code, and actively maintaining & extending our current systems.

+ Working closely with other developers and stakeholders to learn and understand our goals and workflows, your tasks, and our agile-based development approach.

+ Helping debug technical problems. Submit issues so that we can document and improve our services.

+ Demonstrating solid engineering fundamentals and have a good work ethic, be able to communicate clearly and in a respectful manner.

Requirements

+ Possess hands on development experience with Python, Java, or a similar language. This can be from a school project or an internship.

+ Thrive on working collaboratively and enjoy supporting, learning from, and sharing knowledge with a team of people from different backgrounds.

+ Currently a student pursuing their bachelors or masters in a related field (i.e., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.).

+ Possess a technical curiosity with a keen interest to learn new things.
