The Software Engineer (SE) builds, implements, and maintains the platform software which meets the needs of the Campus Services business. Incorporating forward looking designs, the SE anticipates future needs and emerging technologies to develop, improve and maintain Campus Services’ enterprise applications. This is a collaborative role which requires soliciting and incorporating input from key stakeholders, including: Campus Services business partners, ITC, and the CSTS Project Team. The resulting solution design must be aligned with business strategy and our project investment portfolio, including technical standards, software coding standards, tools, and platforms.

Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated skill in using current programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Ruby, Go, Rust, or JavaScript. Knowledge of structured programming and design techniques. Familiarity with computer security systems, including public-key cryptography.
• Demonstrated skill in using tools such as Git, GitLab, Jenkins, Selenium, Docker, Kubernetes, Eclipse, VS Code
• Demonstrated skill in the administration of operating systems such as Windows, Linux
• Ability to automate simple and complex tasks using programming, scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash/Shell), or tools
• Demonstrated skills in using web servers and application servers such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss/Wildfly.
• Demonstrated skills in database technologies such as MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle
• Demonstrated skill in cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, GCP
• Evangelizes DevOps best practices such as CI/CD pipelines, Agile, and automated testing
• Ability to rapidly become proficient in new programming libraries, languages, or operating systems as they are adopted. Familiarity with available open-source software resources.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, and protocols. Expertise with troubleshooting tools including network packet captures, source-level debuggers, and core files.
• Commitment to professional Software Engineering practices, including source-code management, rigorous testing, and change management.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to function independently and responsibly without close supervision. Provide technical leadership to project teams with members from multiple departments.

• The ability to develop partnerships with customers, which are built on delivery, timely and effective communication, and trust.
• The proven ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Software Development/Operations

• Develops integrated systems that may combine commercial programs, open-source software, and locally developed code.
• Provides expert knowledge of software development, data design, systems and business analysis techniques, and detailed knowledge of business functions.
• Determines the hardware and software required to deploy the system with enterprise-quality performance and reliability.
• Evaluates the cost/benefit of commercial products, open-source products, and local development of solutions to address business needs.
• Audits current systems for possible improvements in security and/or reliability
• Designs and implements data feeds, application interfaces, and update procedures with colleagues in other departments.
• Produces system documentation including application interface specifications, user interface documentation, and support procedures.
• Designs and codes programs.
• Tests and debugs design and software implementation problems.

Collaboration and Relationship Management

• Develops customer partnerships built on delivery, timely and effective communication, and trust.
• Identifies opportunities and implements “best practices” to improve user satisfaction by adding new services or modifying existing ones.
• Leverages feedback from users and other computing professionals and colleagues at peer institutions and assists administrators of other systems to troubleshoot programming or networking expertise problems.
• Coordinates with colleagues at other institutions (e.g., Ivy+) that use the same applications.
