The Playback organization within Prime Video owns technologies in encoding, storage, delivery, optimization, metrics, ads, and video players. All operating at a massive scale that allow you to enjoy your video the moment you hit play. We are now looking to expand our footprint, enabling IMDb TV to utilize the same best in class technologies that Prime Video enjoys. Key job responsibilities
As a member of the iOS Prime Video Playback team, you will spend your time as a hands-on engineer and a technical leader. You will play a key role in designing and implementing full customer experiences from the ground up. Your responsibilities will include all aspects of Software Development. You will have the freedom and encouragement to explore your own ideas and the reward of seeing your contributions move from algorithm to software, benefiting tens of millions of Amazon.com customers. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals. Experience with building and operating web-based or mobile applications, especially at massive scale, will be very applicable and helpful.
About the team
The iOS playback team designs, implements and maintains high-performance software that powers video playback on millions of iOS devices. We are responsible for the playback experience, quality and performance from the time you press play on a Prime Video title. Our software is designed to work seamlessly on a variety of devices, in a variety of playing conditions and in a multitude of content consumption contexts including live streaming, on-demand and ad-supported playback. We obsess over the time that elapses between pressing play to when the first frame is rendered to the screen. We are constantly refreshing our software and adding new functionality that allow users to get the best out of both the Amazon video library and their specific device.
We respond to organizational and competitive needs and build high-quality software fast in an agile development environment. We work closely with other Amazon software teams and help them build video functionality into their offerings.
We obsess about software quality! We think about a thousand different ways to break software systems in our labs, so that our customers can enjoy seamless video playback. We use computer vision, OCR and machine learning techniques to solve hard black box testing challenges. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional Software Development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full Software Development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience in digital media, especially knowledge of video streaming, compression, codec formats, video encoding and packaging is a plus but not mandatory. Should be willing to dive into and learn new technologies.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
