Landscape and Garden Center is in Sioux Falls, SD; phone 605-338-0706 has 7 openings for Nursery Workers/Sod Farmersfor temporary, full-time employment. Workers will be required to complete nursery duties or maintain the farm. Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, fruits, nuts, horticultural specialties, and field crops. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling the soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides; cleaning, grading, sorting, packing, and loading harvested products. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities. Workers must be able to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs. Employer will offer 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; depending on weather conditions, work on Saturdays may be required. Workers are needed to begin work on 03/15/2024 through 12/15/2024. Workers will be performed in multiple worksites on three different farms and/or the nursery located in the counties of Minnehaha. Lincoln, and Turner. Workers will be paid no less than $17.33 per hour; returning workers may be paid a higher wage rate due to experience, location, merit. The employer will provide on-the-job training in the proper use of equipment and safety techniques. The employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due. Workers will be paid bi-weekly by check. The employer will make all deductions from the worker’s paycheck required by law. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer will reimburse the worker for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completing the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will pay for the worker’s reasonable return transportation costs. The employer will provide subsistence back home or where the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker’s voluntary abandonment of employment. The transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily meals will be provided at a rate of at least $14.00/day to a maximum of $59.00 p/day with receipts to their home of record or the intervening location. The employer will provide workers at no charge with all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job. Workers are responsible for daily transportation to and from the designated pick-up location at the Sioux Falls, SD main office. Workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government.
