Social Worker
The Department of Health & Human Services is hiring a Social Worker to be responsible for assisting and coordinating forensic and crisis cases, civil commitments and will oversee the new (GMC) Guilty with Mental Conditions Treatment program. The assigned Social Worker will assess the needs of an assigned caseload and determine if individuals qualify for assistance with the GMC program assigned to the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD).
The DSPD Social Worker will attend civil commitment hearings to support their opinion and examination of the individual. They will help track all DSPD civil commitments to determine renewal dates and re-examinations as well as potential terminations. Also responsible for tracking court-related forensic evaluations and GMC referrals. This may also include a review of an individual's environment, current support systems, services and records review with the client and staff.
The Social Worker may be asked to assist with crisis intake, or jail-based competency restoration and outreach. Must be willing to travel throughout the state of Utah for hearings that may require overnight stays. Telehealth will be used for examinations in rural areas.
Must be licensed in the state of Utah as a certified Social Worker or licensed clinical Social Worker, marriage and family therapist, or professional counselor, licensed under Title 58, Chapter 60, Mental Health Professional Practice Act.

Refers client/inmate/patient to other available resources or services.
Provides consultation to partners, internal staff, and other agencies/partners.
Acts as an expert witness. Gives testimony and/or recommendations in civil commitment hearings.
Provides case management for people applying for services and on the waiver.
Coordinates GMC referrals/ forensic evaluations and assists in tracking timeliness and submission of treatment and evaluation reports.
The Ideal Candidate
Must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Professional Counselor in the state of Utah.
Has experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and related conditions.
Has experience working with the court system.
Licensure as a certified Social Worker or licensed clinical Social Worker, marriage and family therapist, or professional counselor, licensed under Title 58, Chapter 60, Mental Health Professional Practice Act required.
May be required to travel and stay overnight, to attend court hearings throughout the state of Utah
This position requires some traveling through the state, therefore must have a valid Utah driver's license.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
