Full Job Description
The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is seeking a professional, motivated, and nurturing After Care Counselor to plan, lead, and implement high-quality Social Recreation programming for our club members during our After Care program. The candidate’s primary responsibility is to ensure that club members are participating in high-yield recreation activities and are having enjoyable experiences throughout the duration of the program.
Social Recreation is a social-emotional learning curriculum that builds skills a young person needs to make healthy choices. The program consists of thematic units with different sessions each which includes activities to help young people develop healthy relationships with themselves and others, emotional regulation skills and responsible decision-making skills.
Responsibilities
- Participate in all staff training and meetings
- Plans, leads, and implements camp programs for children.
- Supervises Club Members and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Facilitates and creates lesson plans for daily activities as assigned
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and sportsmanship
- Ensures the organization and cleanliness
- Empty trash and recycling bins
- Ability to work collaboratively with Counselors in Training and Jr. Staff
- Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements
- Available to work entire camp season with little to no interruption (9 weeks) • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to work up to eight hours a day in an active youth focused environment that may require some physical exertion. • Education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
- First AID, AED, BLS/CPR certification preferred
COVID-19 Considerations
All staff members are required to be vaccinated per state requirement. Masks are strongly encouraged but not mandatory.
