The Social Media Specialist is a member of the University's communication and Marketing and creative team with a key role in enhancing UTC's online presence, engaging diverse audiences and elevating our brand awareness through strategic Social Media initiatives. The role will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities across various social platforms, creating compelling content and fostering community engagement. The Social Media Specialist role requires a creative thinker with a passion for Social Media trends and a commitment to aligning digital efforts with overarching university goals. This role also has a management function in supervising student staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide daily management of UTC accounts on social platforms including
- Collaborate with the Director of Social Media to manage and enhance UTC's daily social and digital media presence
- Maintain brand consistency across all channels, ensuring alignment with UTC's tone, voice, and visual identity
- Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content (copy, images, and video - original and created in collaboration with creative team) that builds meaningful connections with the brand and encourages specific actions
- Engage with the UTC community on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others
- Integrate Social Media content into the overall Communications and Marketing strategy
- Stay updated on video, photography, and Social Media trends for innovative content creation
- Support strategic initiatives for brand awareness, recruitment, and retention
- Continuously improve by measuring and analyzing data/metrics (creating regular reports), insights and best practices and then acting on the learnings
Student Ambassadors & User-Generated Content (UGC)
- Develop and execute strategies for user-generated content, showcasing contributions from students, faculty, alumni, and University leadership
- Establish and manage a student ambassador program, leveraging authentic student voices across platforms
Event Support & Content Writing
- Participate as needed in student recruitment planning and events, university events, unit public relations or marketing events and activities
- Contribute content and copy writing to student recruitment, retention, and student affairs
- Contribute to the maintenance of campus calendar and map features on website
- Participate in committees and task forces as needed
- Identify and participate in appropriate professional development activities
- Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess the following requirements:
- Knowledge of Social Media platforms, their audiences, and emerging trends of content best suited to individual platforms
- Strong knowledge of project management
- Knowledge of current best practices in digital marketing and major marketing channels
- Excellent skills in developing original content (photo, video, and copy) while maintaining brand, editorial, and Social Media standards
- Skills in creating organized, informational workshops or training sessions to peers on Social Media trends, best practices, and effectiveness
- Skills managing Social Media for an institution or brand
- Ability to measure success and create consistent reports
- Ability to work with a wide group of individuals across campus
- Abilities in Microsoft 360 (including Teams)
- Ability to work after hours and on weekends as needed

Minimum qualifications:
- Typically requires bachelor's degree in a Marketing, Communications, English, or related degree
- 1 year of experience in a communication, marketing, or similar role
- Demonstrable writing, editing, written content creation or proofreading experience
- Experience and proficiency in Social Media content creation (including video production), scheduling and analytics
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience using appropriate technologies for effective Social Media
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Preferred qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in managing multiple Social Media platforms for a brand
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience developing and evaluating outcomes of long-term Social Media strategy plans
- Experience using HootSuite, Sprout Social, LinkTree and/or other Social Media management tools
- Experience with rapid response crisis communication
