NATURE AND SCOPE:
Under the general direction of the SVP and Youth Development Director, the Social Emotional Learning Specialist is responsible for leading and providing individual or small group SEL support during the Day Camp program. The SEL Specialist will be responsible for implementing SEL curriculum for campers and provide support to camp counselors. In addition, the SEL Specialist will develop and design SEL curriculum for 3 day camp locations and implement curriculum, in coordination with Youth Development Directors, that builds upon the SEL skills needed to be successful. All program decisions must be guided by YMCA program standards. Additionally, this position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives established by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols including Community Health Strategies, and Member Services Guidelines and Program approved non-negotiables.
Know How:
1. Must be 18 years of age.
2. A bachelor's degree or technical certification or degree preferred
3. For those working at licensed Bright from the Start facilities, must possess a minimum credential that meets BFTS requirements.
4. Must have a minimum of one-year prior experience working with school-age children and SEL curriculum in a group setting.
5. Have evidence of current successful completion of biennial training in CPR, or complete within 30 days of hire.
6. Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
7. Have experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Power Point, as well as, internet technology platforms such as Google Classroom and Zoom.
8. For facilities that operate under Bright from the Start Licensing/License-Exemption, must receive a cleared GCIC/NCIC and a cleared Fingerprint check through Bright From the Start before working. (Annual GCIC checks will be conducted before each school year begin.)

Essential Functions:

  • Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction to support program goals and SEL instruction.
  • Implement SEL curriculum in the day camp program to campers and counselors with SEL.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Youth Development Directors and counselors on camper's SEL progress, opportunities and needs.
  • Attend weekly/monthly Day Camp Staff meetings to lead SEL initiative.
  • Meet weekly/monthly with other SEL Specialist to discuss curriculum and progress of pilot programs.
  • Implement SEL camper and family evaluations.
  • Complete SEL progress reports as needed.
  • Operate and deliver the program in compliance with YMCA and BFTS regulations, if at a licensed/licensed-exempt BFTS program.
  • Discuss and report any concerns with the Youth Development Director.
  • Maintain personal file to remain in compliance with the YMCA and BFTS, if at a licensed BFTS facility.
  • Coordinate supply needs with the Site Director.
  • Attend YMCA and other trainings as scheduled. Maintain BFTS annual trainings hours, if at a licensed site.
  • Consult with the Site Director on concerns related to student(s) development or behavior.
  • Provide input into the planning and development of the program.
  • Complete monthly self-assessments of the program, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as related to the delivery of a quality program.
  • This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols Including COVID-19, and Member Services Guidelines and Non-Negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.
  • Adhere to the YMCA Youth and Teen Safety Policy
  • Follow the provided Grant budget in accordance with approved expenditures.

Ergonomic Requirements: Bending, stooping, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, seeing, verbal communication and hearing.
Effect of end Result:
Children and Families will experience a high-quality school-age program. Children will be supervised at all times. The program will remain in compliance at all times with YMCA, and Bright From the Start-if at a licensed BFTS facility, rules and regulations. I understand my status of a Learning Specialist is contingent upon keeping the minimum enrollment.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
