Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Education is searching for a qualified candidate to develop content, coordinate and deliver professional development in the Office of School Nutrition. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with the Team Nutrition Training Grants content development and materials; managing the VDOE Office of School Nutrition Programs social media platforms and assisting with website accessibility.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of adult learner and training delivery models. Ability to plan for, coordinate, and deliver training to school/child nutrition program staff and school division personnel. Knowledge of public relations techniques and principles. Knowledge of desktop publishing, word processing, and database management. Basic knowledge of school nutrition programs and the federal and state laws governing them. Basic knowledge of nutrition and food service operations including menu planning, food safety, food production, and nutrition education. Knowledge of state agency function, school administration, and state and local government procedures and policies.
Skills: Excellent skills in written and oral communication. Organizational management and communication skills. Computer skills in database management, spreadsheet applications, word processing, presentation software, Internet, and web-based systems. Skills in researching, collecting, organizing, and managing data. Skills in report writing and delivering technical assistance and training to internal and external stakeholders.
Abilities: Ability to develop training content, materials, and resources. Ability to deliver professional development to school divisions and potential stakeholders related to school nutrition programs. Ability to interpret policies and procedures, assess programs, identify problems, apply problem-solving techniques and determine improvements and solutions. Ability to effectively and competently manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet critical deadlines. Ability to organize, write, layout, and distribute a variety of informational publications such as newsletters, articles, and brochures. The ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals from a wide range of organizations, to communicate effectively, and establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment to coordinate, critique, and edit work products of other team members professionally and competently. Ability to use photography and media equipment.
Additional Considerations
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in institutional management, nutrition, public health, marketing, communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Master's Degree or equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work preferred.
Professional experience in training and communications. Knowledge of school/child nutrition and public agencies. Experience in training adults.
