Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Slitter Operator and with the assistance of others, the Slitter Helper loads coils on the slitter for processing. In this job function, the incumbent is called on to operate overhead cranes and forklifts. The Slitter Helper may perform alone or assist others in the unloading of finished goods from the slitter. This includes the collection, transfer, and packaging of finished goods using overhead cranes, forklifts, and banding machines.
Under the direction of the Slitter Operator, the Slitter Helper sets up and adjusts overarms and tensioning arms. The incumbent may assist others as directed with other set-up activities including adjustment of knives and levelers and various shims and pads. In this role, the incumbent uses standard measurement and hand tools. The incumbent also assists the Slitter Operator in monitoring the cutting process, especially at the uncoiler and recoiler. The monitoring is to insure that the slitter is operated according to manufacturer’s instructions and that the finished goods meet customer requirements.
The Slitter Helper monitors the quality of product being cut by visual observation and inspection of material for surface defects, burrs, etc. The Slitter Helper insures the availability of supplies and is responsible for the general cleanliness and housekeeping of the applicable work area including the dumping of scrap. These responsibilities insure uninterrupted operation of production equipment and a clean, clutter free, safe working environment.
The Slitter Helper performs all duties according to location policies and procedures, manufacturer instructions, and within accepted safety rules and practices. The incumbent is aware of all applicable emergency procedures. The incumbent is also called on to provide on-the-job instruction in the essential functions of the Slitter Helper job for the purpose of developing the skills of others.
At the discretion of supervision or management, the Slitter Helper may be asked to perform other duties and tasks or fulfill other responsibilities for which (s)he is qualified at any time.

Qualifications, Certifications, and Experience:
- High school education or equivalent preferred – can be offset by acceptable related experience
- Experience sufficient to have demonstrated proficiency in job requirements of Slitter Helper; prefer apprenticeship under the direction of experienced and competent slitter operating personnel
- Certified training pursuant to OSHA industrial truck (forklift) regulations
