Job Description and Duties

SKILLED LABORER (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – DISTRICT FACILITIES MANAGEMENT / STATEWIDE TRAIL CREWS / McCLELLAN


The reporting location for this position is 4940 Lang Ave, McClellan, CA. This position will work under the supervision of Park Maintenance Chief II.

This Skilled Laborer will do skilled and unskilled maintenance; performs various housekeeping, grounds keeping and minor maintenance tasks; answers routine questions from the public as necessary; completes miscellaneous reports; leads and trains less experienced maintenance personnel in maintenance and construction activities. May lead a crew of seasonal employees, CCC and ACE crews performing maintenance and construction activities. This position will frequently work from remote locations to efficiently complete task assignments. This position requires to work nights, weekends and odd hours and overtime in accomplishment of assigned tasks. This position will also spike camp at work sites outside throughout the State.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Wednesday to Wednesday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

This position may work up to 1500 hours per year/in a 12 consecutive month period.

Working Conditions

This job includes the ability to perform a variety of heavy manual labor work to restore and maintain state park resources and facilities, and requires working outdoors in inclement weather conditions, smoky conditions related to prescribed fire, hiking over uneven and steep terrain, and carrying heavy loads. This position is required to travel statewide for extended periods of time. The position also requires working nights, weekends, odd hours, and overtime to accomplish assigned tasks. This position is required to spike camp outside in remote sites throughout the California State Park system.
