In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our Emerging Technologies - Oral Finished Products facility in Durham, NC is a 194,000 square foot tableting and packaging facility that supports the production of our innovative oral treatments for patients with type 2 diabetes. The Position
Responsible for supporting the development of Site Security and Safety processes/systems for the OFP Durham facility. Activities to include writing/reviewing procedures and requirements, participating in site safety and security evaluations, SOP development, Pest Control program, safety & Site Security programs development & training. Provide leadership & support in attaining a safe working environment, to include providing direct supervision of Site Security & performing regular security audits. Ensure positive working relationship with internal & external teams & alignment/collaboration with Corporate Safety & Security groups. Drive the Site Security & Safety processes for ET-OFP-US. Ensure Safety Systems (SS) function per design, meeting all business needs, in compliance with applicable regulations & codes.

Essential Functions
- Provide technical direction to site as it relates to management of Site Security and safety processes & ensuring security and safety compliance
- Responsible for operation and management of site access control systems, to include badge and key control programs
- Responsible for operation & overall life cycle planning of Safety and Security Systems, including fire detection, fire suppression & emergency alarm systems, physical perimeter/lighting control, access systems, intruder detection systems & sub-systems
- Manage & support contract security vendor at the site
- Plan & coordinate all testing, inspection & maintenance of site Safety and Security systems
- Manage improvements & upgrades to security/safety & badge access system, including commissioning & decommissioning, when required
- Ensure compliance with all regulations & regulatory authorities applicable to Safety and Security Systems
- Manage and negotiate vendor support contracts for Safety & Security Systems
- Plan, coordinate & execute emergency/evacuation drills, capture learnings & ensure continuous improvements are made to site processes
- Create & implement Site Security & Safety programs
- Coordinate First Aid/CPR/AED training for site personnel
- Serve as site Crisis Response Coordinator, and Severe Weather Monitoring Lead
- Manage site pest control program and contracts
- Follow all safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties
- Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements
Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Strap & unstrap pallets using hands. Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.
Qualifications
- BA/BS in engineering, physical sciences or life sciences field of study from an accredited university or an equivalent combination of education & experience required
- May consider an Associate’s degree in engineering, physical sciences or life sciences field of study from an accredited university with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Safety professional required
- May consider a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of nine (9) years of experience as a Safety professional required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Safety professional required
- Proven knowledge of state, federal & local safety regulations required
- Emergency Management / planning knowledge & experience required
- Good communication & writing skills required
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations including process safety management (PSM) preferred
- Strong skills in root cause analysis for analyzing accidents & process incidents preferred
- NICET Level I/II Fire Alarm Certification is a plus
- Pharmaceutical experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of fire detection/suppression/prevention systems is preferred
