Position Summary:
Responsible for maintaining the operations and appearance of Wanzek Construction's equipment.ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:
- Fleet maintenance management
- Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on all equipment, troubleshooting, determine if repairs will be done in the field, Wanzek's shop, or outsourced
- Update tool inventory
- Properly complete a JHA prior to any work function that poses a potential of injury
- Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect equipment for defects
- Ensure all equipment has an equipment ID (logo, unit numbers, digital photos)
- Maintain proper record keeping
- DOT Issues: verify USDOT annual inspections in trucks and on file in office
- Equipment safety (i.e. backup alarms, lights, seat belts, fire extinguishers, rigging, etc.)
- Show expertise in all basic and complex machines, including crane safety (anti two blocks, rigging, crane maintenance daily log book/annual inspection, etc.); investigate or question others to ensure logs and two blocks are correct, etc.
- Occasionally travel to jobsites for repairs and inspections, review field maintenance to ensure it is done properly and review maintenance reports
- Review maintenance records and major repairs with operators and superintendents to ensure crews are self-sufficient and responsible for their own maintenance
- Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
- Diagnose single system problems in mechanical electric or hydraulic systems
- Effectively communicate to obtain needed parts
- Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
- Road test vehicles when required
- Identify machinery defects or malfunctions and complete repair
- Keep shop area neat and clean
- Maintain and account for all shop tools and manuals; return them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received
- Understand, keep abreast of and comply with federal, state and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Report any safety issues immediately to management
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- One-year certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology and two years relevant experience.
- One or more of the following certifications: Electrical diagnostics and repair cert, A/C system diagnostics and repair cert, Welding Certification, OEM certification (JD Tech, CAT Tech, Case IH Tech, Komatsu Tech, Ford, Kenworth, Liebherr)
- ASE Certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
- Ability to Diagnose complex problems in systems including mechanical, hydraulic and electrical.
- Ability to Supervise and coordinate the work of a 3rd party mechanic.
- Ability to track and maintain records of completed work and update status of open work orders
- Minimum level of rework
- High level of efficiency. 80% of efficiency or higher.
- Ability to work independently

Working Environment:
- When visiting jobsites the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
- Frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
