Job Description
The Shop Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our manufacturing facility, with a focus on producing high-quality aviation lighting products. The ideal candidate will have experience in reading schematics, fabricating components, and managing shop activities efficiently. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader to grow the department and eventually lead a team of skilled technicians and fabricators.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to fabricate components and assemblies.
- Coordinate with engineering and production teams to prioritize work orders and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Supervise shop activities, including machining, welding, assembly, and quality control processes.
- Monitor inventory levels and order materials as needed to support production schedules.
- Implement best practices for safety, efficiency, and quality control in the manufacturing environment.
- Train and mentor shop personnel to develop technical skills and expertise in aviation lighting manufacturing.
- Collaborate with management to develop strategies for departmental growth and expansion.
- Maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with safety regulations and maintenance schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support company objectives and initiatives.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, preferably in the aerospace or aviation industry.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in fabrication techniques such as machining, welding, and assembly.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of technicians and fabricators.
- Solid organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software is a plus.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and driving operational excellence in the shop environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is preferred.
