Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Shop Combo Welder to join our team. As a Shop Combo Welder, you will be responsible for performing various welding techniques on a range of materials (mostly carbon steel and stainless steel) in a workshop setting. Your primary focus will involve fabricating and assembling metal components, ensuring high-quality welds, and contributing to the overall production process.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Secure components together applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
- Select appropriate equipment and plan the layout and assembly of a welding process.
- Apply knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage and welding techniques.
- Bolt, clamp and tack-weld parts to secure in position for welding as needed.
- Prepare material for welding by cutting or grinding using pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and/or grinder.
- Set material in stands, racks, hoists, etc. for welding.
- Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, or gas welding equipment
- Repair products by dismantling, straightening and reshaping.
- Reassemble parts using cutting torch, straightening press and hand tools.
- Reads and understands plans, isometrics, arrangement drawings, details, specifications, erection manuals, and/or blueprints and makes decisions based on measurable criteria.
- Visualizes objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.
- Work within precise limits and ANSI and ASME standards of accuracy.
- Follow oral and written directions.
- Work within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Qualifications:
At least (5) years of verifiable MIG, FLUX, and TIG welding experience. Other qualifications include:
- Able to weld aluminum
- Able to read blueprints
- Able to work both independently and within a team environment
- Must be able to work overtime when needed
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Must be able to pass a work physical
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various positions (standing, kneeling, bending) for extended periods.
- Capacity to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperatures.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, hood, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
