Job Summary
The Shift Leader position is a targeted, off-shift (2nd, 3rd, potentially weekend shift) position intended to be an extension and representation of the RMF management team where there is historically none. These positions are intended to give off-shift associates 16hrs of additional shift coverage to communicate concerns and issues while also providing leadership during critical safety, quality, and downtime events. The ideal candidate for shift leader will be very comfortable holding associates accountable to RMF standards as well as setting clear priorities for all RMF value streams. The Shift Leader's workstation will be directly on the production floor (not in an office) so that all off-shift associates have full access to shift leaders and vice versa.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Monitor, support and escalate Safety events requiring management intervention. This includes ensuring Team Leaders correctly document Safety Reports and execute first aid in the best interests of associates and RMF.
- Ensure Team Leaders and their teams execute Quality reaction and escalation standards.
- Ensure Team Leaders and their teams execute Downtime reaction and escalation standards, including 5S alternative work when opportunities present.
- Ensure Team Leaders and their teams are organized to produce RMF's customer priorities at the best possible load-counts achievable by a given team.
- Monitor for, support, and escalate associate conflict events.
- Collect continuous improvement ideas (including potentially helping associates enter ideas into ZincIt Suggestion System) through continual process confirmation.
- Responsible Shift Leader ZincIt reports summarizing their daily shift's highlights, CIP suggestions, and any needed escalations/observations requiring Technology Leader and Plant Manager support.
- As/if required by their Plant Manager, support the integration of continuous improvement tasks.
- Ensure that Team Leaders and Teams do not waste labor during startups, shutdowns, and downtime events.
Support HR communications and events that are needed on a shift-wide basis
- OTHER: (e.g. authorizations, authority to issue directives, information rights):
- Rotate between production lines to assess why/why not Performance target load counts are being achieved.
- Rotate between production lines to assess how effectively Quality is being assessed. Is/is-not a reject and reasons why.
- Rotate between production lines to assess the effectiveness of RMF associate training.
- Assess for underutilized/overutilized associate labor and attempt to rebalance with appropriate cross-trained labor while taking into consideration RMF customer priorities.
- Recognize and encourage associates with positive feedback for hitting targets, submitting ideas, being great team-players, acts of greatness, and intercept events before they become major and detrimental.
- Support Team Leaders in getting their teams onto and off breaks per RMF standards.
- Record improvement ideas into the Shift Leader improvement journals.
- Provide Leadership posture and presence on the production floor at all times expected to work closely with 1st shift Production Managers.

D. DUTIES NOT TO BE CARRIED OUT:
· Not an office position where the position holder spends the shift reviewing emails or surfing the internet.
· Not a Team Leader position over a specific line and shift. No direct reports in production.
· Changing chemistry set points or machine set points (must work within Control Plan)
E. WORKPLACE REQUIREMENTS: (only those necessary for the position)
· Computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Zinc It
· Troubleshooting skills (Chemical and Mechanical)
· Proficient in the practical application of lean principles, methods, and tools.
· Practical working knowledge of basic SPC.
