Job description

Position Summary:
IEM is looking for Full Time - Shelter Site Manager to fill our clients’ growing desire for mass care and shelter management initiatives in communities across the country. Are you looking for a job that gives you a strong sense of passion, meaning and purpose?

Shelter Site Managers will be responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and administrative support for congregate and/or non-congregate shelters for the general population.

Primary Location:
  • Candidates who are able to start immediately will be given preference, we have an immediate need to start people full time within 72 hours of offer acceptance.
  • Candidates must originate from the Washington DC area so they can work daily on site.
  • Job sites will be in Washington DC and the surrounding area.
  • This position will require work to be conducted onsite and will require work on some weekends/holidays in excess of 40 hours per week with Over Time Pay.
  • Jobs sites are subject to change or be added based on client needs and continued employment requires you to be able to work on site.

Travel Requirements:
  • This position will require work to be conducted onsite and may require work on weekends or in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Travel and other expenses are reimbursable in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide direction and control of shelter operations composed of several work teams and service providers.
  • Ensure the needs of shelter occupants are being met.
  • Assumes accountability for overall shelter operation.
  • Responsible for the completion of written reports related to shelter operations.

Current Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience managing congregate and or non-congregate shelters for populations at-risk, such as refugees, unaccompanied minors, and families seeking asylum status.
  • Experience tracking and meeting shelter population requirements to be addressed on site via shelter staff or via external stakeholders such as case managers, mental health professionals, and other key resource and service providers for individuals and families living in a shelter environment.
  • Proficiency utilizing software and technology solutions utilized in shelter operations.
  • Experience opening, operating, and closing shelters.
  • Working knowledge identifying stakeholders and facilitating with stakeholders to meet varying requirements of individuals and families within shelter populations with access and functional needs, language access needs, and other requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of experience responding to natural, technological, and human-caused disasters.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public administration, emergency management, business administration, or related field. An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Have a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and be on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
  • Must be able to pass a Child Abuse background check, and all applicable state and federal criminal background checks.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.

Preferred Qualifications
:
  • Professional Registration or Certification including Project Management
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
