WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A SHELTER ADVOCATE AT SHELTER ADVOCATE
As a Shelter Advocate at the Young Women's Christian Association in Cleveland, Ohio, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of shelter guests on a day-to-day basis. Your responsibilities will include coordinating daily meal services, facilitating life skill programming, and conducting after-hours screening and intake procedures for new shelter guests. Utilizing trauma-informed approaches, you will provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to support individuals in need. Additionally, your participation in daily shift reports and data collection activities will contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our services. REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS SHELTER ADVOCATE JOB
To excel as a Shelter Advocate at the Young Women's Christian Association in Cleveland, Ohio, candidates should possess a High School Diploma or GED, along with a minimum of three years of prior customer service experience. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to utilizing evidence-based models of care and best practices to guide work activities. Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills are essential for effective communication and coordination of services. The ability to handle stressful situations with composure and empathy is crucial in providing crisis intervention and de-escalation support to shelter guests.
