This position is the point person for Shelter Mediations for Cleveland Mediation Center and uses mediation and conflict resolution to address conflicts that arise in homeless shelters between staff and residents so residents can exit to permanent housing. The position also works as a Mediation Advocate for community cases to prevent eviction and to address conflict between neighbors.
This position is the point person for shelter mediations. The Mediation Advocate will schedule cases with local homeless shelters to mediate between shelter staff and shelter residents so that shelter residents can be discharged to permanent housing. The Mediation Advocate will document all mediations in an Excel spreadsheet, in Clarity (a Homeless Management Information System, and in Evolv (an electronic medical record). This position will also schedule in-person visits at the local homeless shelters to build a presence so that shelter residents understand the mediation process and feel more comfortable in requesting mediation. Mediations at the homeless shelter site, in-person, are encouraged therefore the staff person will need to be available for in-person mediations at the site of the shelter.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Resolution, Mediation, or a related field from an accredited College or University or equivalent job experience. Prior work and knowledge or interest in mediation and/or conflict resolution.
Experience working with people from different economic and cultural backgrounds. Commitment and ability to engage in an empathetic, non-judgmental way with people in stressful situations – to establish rapport in order to help them resolve their immediate housing crisis and commitment to treating people in the LGBTQI+ community and all others with dignity and respect.
This is a non-exempt, union position with a minimum-starting wage of $20.00 per hour. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
