Shellfish Hatchery Technician

Ward Aquafarms, LLC, is hiring for their Shellfish Hatchery in Pocasset, MA. We are hiring for full time and part time positions, with the intent for the positions to become full time. From late fall through early spring, the positions are within the hatchery, assisting with all hatchery functions. From late spring throughout the summer, the positions are focused on shellfish and nursery and growout operations

Standard tasks:

-growing microalgae

-spawning broodstock

-raising larval shellfish

-cleaning tanks

-maintaining saltwater systems

-collecting production and water quality data

At our company we have a mix of different responsibilities, and we all work together as a team to get the jobs done. Hatchery work is mainly a seasonal occupation, so as the hatchery slows down in the late summer, the position would transition to helping to manage our shellfish nursery systems at several sites around Bourne and Falmouth. This will include maintaining the shellfish nurseries, and monitoring subsequent intermediate shellfish nursery sites.

Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Must be comfortable working on ladders (<6’)

Must have some experience with shellfish larvae, microalgae culture, microbiological techniques, or equivalent

Must be comfortable working outside in spring/summer/fall conditions

Must currently live within 20 miles of Pocasset, MA.

Must have a valid license, and reliable transportation

There are opportunities to work weekends on an alternating schedule throughout the hatchery season from January-June.

Employment is 20-40 hrs per week, Monday-Friday, with schedule determined in collaboration with the applicant. Full time work is 40 hrs per week, with a rotating schedule with week days off after working a weekend shift.

Part time employees receive paid Federal holidays and a competitive wage.

All full time employees receive health and dental 50% company paid, HCA company funded 100%, all Federal holidays, paid vacation and sick time, and a competitive salary. Health and dental start day 1 of full time employment, vacation time is eligible on a prorated basis starting 60 days after full employment start date.
