Description
Seeking a dynamic, energetic intern who is eager to learn about Nantucket's Natural Resources Department and to help maintain Nantucket's shellfish stock. You will be working closely with our Hatchery Technician to help complete daily tasks. A successful intern will be willing to help with any tasks assigned by the Hatchery Technician. This is a fun, fast-paced environment with tons of interesting field work. This job is labor intensive, often performed in inclement weather and you must be able to lift at least fifty pounds.

Intern Primary Responsibilities:
- Fulfill tasks set out by Hatchery Technician
- Perform research at a supervisor's request
- Create images for and update social media platforms
Additional Intern Responsibilities:
- Dive surveys
- Deploying, collecting, cleaning and recording data on spat bags
- Larval releases
- Collecting scallops for broodstock and spawning cages
- General hatchery maintenance
- A willingness and ability to give tours of the hatchery
- Cleaning and maintain all equipment and tanks around the hatchery
- Power washing equipment as needed to help with their upkeep
- Maintain post set shellfish system with multiple shellfish species
- Assist with shell recycling program as needed
Intern Requirements:
- Must be comfortable using a variety of power and hand tools
- TEAM player
- Eager to learn and work with various programs within the department
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- SCUBA certified preferred
- Knowledge of spreadsheets beneficial
- Ability to multitask
- Cope well under pressure
- Willingness to work some holidays and weekends
- Valid drivers license coupled with the ability to drive large pick up trucks
