Job description

Founded in 1999, Access Laser is a leader in designing and manufacturing high-end CO2 lasers. We are a rapidly growing company, experiencing double-digit revenue growth in recent years. We provide leading-edge gas-discharge-excited laser technologies to global industries in the medical, semiconductor, electronic, manufacturing, and scientific development R&D markets. We focus on creative designs that match our customers' applications and solve difficult problems with innovative solutions. We strive to provide a challenging and supportive environment where team members are encouraged to go beyond ordinary thinking and challenge the normal with the truly ingenious. Our team is our greatest asset and supporting their career development is the greatest investment we can make in our future.
In October 2017 we became a member of the TRUMPF Group, the world's largest manufacturer of lasers and laser systems. Although we have retained the agility and flexibility of a small company, both our business and our employees now have access to new opportunities for growth.
Access Laser Company is seeking a Service Engineer to complement our team in diagnosing root cause, determining appropriate repairs, testing and fine tuning some of the world's most impactful application-specific laser products.
Primary Duties:

  • Test, troubleshoot, determine root cause, and repair our most complicated electromechanical laser assemblies.
  • Provide detailed failure analyses to customers and to the manufacturing engineering team to facilitate product and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with other members (both technical and non-technical) of the product development team, providing important input during Design Reviews about Design for Serviceability and Design for Quality.
  • Create technical documentation and reports of the work you do and the problems you solve.
  • Utilize measurement and test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, and network analyzers.
  • Perform quality work in a clean room and ESD environment.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all lasers meet the highest performance and quality standards.
  • As time allows, assist with the final test duties for the production team.

Other Important Duties:
  • Pay exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effectively contribute to a high-energy and highly-collaborative environment.
  • Maintain a high standard for communication and teamwork.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Standard Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in physics or another related hard science.
  • 3 years experience in a test or technician role in high tech manufacturing or a similar service organization.
  • Experience performing Root Cause Analysis and preparing failure analysis reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of electronics, optics, or mechanical manufacturing.
  • Hands on experience with building, trouble-shooting, and repairing electromechanical systems.

Highly Desirable Additional Skills/Experience:
  • Experience with building and testing laser systems.
  • Experience with Design Reviews, FMEAs, the 8D problem solving methodology, lean manufacturing and 5S concepts.
  • An understanding of or previous experience with RF power supplies.
  • Experience handling optics as part of an assembly process.
