Job Summary and Qualifications

• Under the general direction of the Dietitian and the Dietary Director, the Diet Tech assists the Dietitian with clinical nutrition care for patients/residents and their families; collecting basic nutritionally relevant data to identify patients preliminary nutritional risk level and appropriate triage of nutrition information; assisting Dietitian in providing nutrition education and counseling for patients and their families; collecting pertinent clinical data from patient medical records; collecting and implementing food and nutrition preferences; retrieving and assessing patient/resident nutritional information from hospital computer.
• Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care. As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors and other employees
• Champion HCA’s mission, vision and values; comply with the policies and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by the company.
• Orders food supplies as assigned. Obtains diet order related information from the order entry computer.
• Records current diet prescription in cardex, including all nourishments throughout the day.
• Implements computer orders for any new admissions, discharges, diets, or room changes.
• Offers assistance to patients making menus; offers accepted alternate food selections to patients, when requested.
• Sets up station according to standards with no missing items. Confirms patient cart with patient tray line timing monitor when requested.
• Heads and modifies patient menus for next day distribution as needed.
• Records refrigerator, freezer and dish machine temperatures; checks pot and pan sink sanitizer as needed.
• Sets up food serving stations when requested.
• Assists with training, education and orientation of dietary employees when requested.
• Participates in quality improvement programs as appropriate throughout the hospital.
• In support of the hospital Dietician and Department Director with association of clerical and department standards and policies.
• Any reasonable tasks assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

• High School Graduate / GED
• Some general Diet office experience preferred
