Job description

Summary

We are looking for a skilled Service Carpenter to join our Service team and contribute to various small construction efforts. As a Service Carpenter with Schuchart, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects utilizing your skills to complete support work on behalf of our valued customers. Key Responsibilities/Functions

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities and skills required of personnel so classified.

  • Manage individual work orders, ascertain best possible solutions, source and procure materials, document all time and materials in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Effectively evaluate assigned work and formulate action plan.
  • Effectively resource and procure material in a timely fashion.
  • Actively reports completion status on all assigned work. Always providing target completion date.
  • Develop and manage job hazard analysis andexecutes work in accordance with advanced safety planning.
  • Records/updates all time/materials and subcontractor costs for each assigned work order. If final costs are not known during the time of acquisition or engagement, properly makes entry and flags pending costs as “0” zero dollar.
  • Ensure work areas are properly maintained. Provided GFI documents are posted, and the work area is kept clean and maintained as the work progresses (clean as you go).
  • Performing carpenter level rough and finish carpentry duties. Growing skills base in the repair and replacement of door hardware.
  • Utilize a proactive approach to anticipate and resolve potential issues.
  • Consult with clients and contractors in a professional manner. Communicate in advance with those potentially impacted by our efforts. Mitigate and manage impacts form smells, dust, and debris. Schedule work to mitigate impacts as needed (some work will need to be off shift).
  • Ensure work orders are completed in a timely fashion and ensure quality of work.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Schuchart safety practices and procedures.
  • Support activities at all Schuchart work orders as directed.
  • Use of wheelbarrows and brooms.
  • Hear commands from supervisors and back-up safety alarms on equipment.
  • Drywall repair and painting.
  • Traffic marking and maintenance of painting rig.
  • Replacement and repair of basic door hardware.
  • Functions successfully as co-worker and team member of service group supporting others in a collaborative fashion.
  • Other job duties as needed.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

Requirements and skills

  • Combined minimum of 2+ years of experience as a Service Laborer, Service Apprentice, and or Carpenter.
  • Working knowledge of rough and finish carpentry; proper tool usage and safety, door hardware, traffic marking (painting), dry wall repair (i.e. equipment materials and safety practices for carpentry work).
  • Display hand-to-eye coordination, mathematical skills, strength, stamina, and be detailed oriented.
  • Display basic computer skills.
  • Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers.
  • Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
  • Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety.
  • Capable of working in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must have personal hand tools.
  • Valid WA State driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to commute to job sites.

Physical Demands

  • Repetitive climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and reaching overhead.
  • Ability to work in tight or high places (scaffolding, roofs, and crawlspaces).
  • Prolonged use of jackhammer and pavement breaker.
  • Climb ladders multiple times a day.
  • Repetitive use of hands and wrists using power, rotational, and vibration tools.
  • Tolerate legally permissible exposure to dust and chemicals, such as cement dust, solvents, and curing compounds.
  • Lift and/or pull 75lbs., work off ladders, man lifts or other equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a standing position for extended periods of time, fully squat, bend or kneel while wearing a tool belt.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
