Regional Government Services and its staff are conducting the recruitment on behalf of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority.
The Position
This is the advanced/lead-level classification in the Wildfire Mitigation Specialist class series that performs the full range of inspection duties related to the Authority's Wildfire Mitigation Program. In addition to providing technical and functional direction to lower-level staff, incumbents work under general supervision and exercise a high level of discretion and independent judgment in performing the full range of routine to complex tasks. This class is distinguished from the Wildfire Mitigation Specialist in that this class performs advanced journey-level Wildfire Mitigation inspections and leads the work of other staff and coordinates Wildfire Mitigation activities with other local fire agencies and fire prevention/vegetation management partners.

About the Client

The Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) leads the development of fire adapted communities using sound scientific, financial, programmatic, ecological practices, vegetation management, community education, evacuation, and warning systems with the support of its member and partner agencies. Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority communities are informed, prepared, fire adapted, resilient and capable of withstanding a major fire limiting loss of life and major property damage while protecting our rich environmental diversity. Education:
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by college level coursework in fire sciences and prevention. An associate degree or bachelor's degree with major coursework in fire science, fire prevention, or fire technology is highly desirable.
Experience:
  • Two (2) years of responsible journey level experience in Wildfire Mitigation work performing fire inspections at a level equivalent to the Authority's classification of Wildfire Mitigation Specialist.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license is a condition of continued employment
  • Certified as a Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist by the National Fire Protection Association, within 12 months of hire date
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
  • $115,000 - $127,000/ year DOE/DOQ
  • Medical Benefits - $1,900 per month cafeteria plan
  • Paid Time Off - one hundred twenty hours (120) annually equivalent to the rate of 4.615 hours per pay period
  • A 401(a)-plan funded at 7.5% of salary
  • An employee funded 457 plan

Appraisal Process - (Pass/Fail) After the closing deadline, applications will be screened in relation to the criteria indicated in this announcement.
This process may also include various interviews and/or a skills assessment exam to rank applications, and to prepare a Qualified Candidate List.
Application - Minimum Qualification Assessment - (Pass/Fail) All completed applications and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed and assessed for each applicant's ability to meet the minimum work experience, training, and education qualifications.
Remote Screen Interview Exam - (Pass/Fail) Candidates who pass the Remote Screen Interview assessment will be invited to a Remote Screen Interview Examination to evaluate training, experience, and other job-related qualifications for the position. The Remote Screen Interview will be conducted via a video conference platform and is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 11, 2024.
Oral Board Interview Exam - (100%) Applicants may be selected for consideration to participate in an Oral Board Interview appraisal to evaluate training, experience, and other job-related qualifications for the position. The Oral Board Interview is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 25, 2024. Successful candidates will be placed on a list of qualified candidates.
Successful candidates will be submitted to the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority for further consideration.
