Form of workJob Summary: The Senior Visual Merchandising Specialist assures that every Navy Exchange adheres to NEX visual and merchandising standards and achieves planned sales and profit. Provides direction and guidance to VISUAL MERCHANDISING SPECIALISTs and stores. Responsible for all aspects of new and remodeled store projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Store Involvement and Execution:
- Responsible for branding development and execution in stores. Conduct yearly audits to identify areas/programs/procedures inconsistent with NEX branding standards.
- Responsible for Visual Merchandising standards. Conduct yearly audits to identify areas/programs/procedures inconsistent with NEX Visual Merchandising standards. Maintain NEX visual standards books.
- Responsible for submitting VM programs and specific budgets supporting annual and continuing Operations strategies.
- Actively participates in all monthly teleconferences.
- Develop and maintain a Visual Merchandising monthly calendar as a store tool for planning and driving sales.
- Prototype VISUAL MERCHANDISING elements and fixtures for cost savings, higher capacity, flexibility, and durability.
- Develop and implement visual elements into plan-o-grams to support merchandising and operational strategies.
- Produce seasonal VISUAL MERCHANDISING books three times a year. Publish Best Practices on seasonal, POS, and departmental communication directives. Develop and publish checklist for stores.
- Meet monthly with GMMs and DMMs to determine visual requirements to support merchandising strategies. Provide a recap to the Director of Visual Merchandising. The specialist provides direction to stores on promotional, sale, and special events that support merchandising strategies.
- Produce VISUAL MERCHANDISING programs for stores based on different volume/size tiers. Develop visual focal points in all store tier ranks.
- Attend merchandising meetings with vendors. Approve vendor-provided VISUAL MERCHANDISING elements. Communicate to stores approved vendor collateral. Maintain a list of approved collateral.
- Fully aware of merchandising adjacencies and seasonal placement of merchandise.
- Communicate to stores through the Visual Merchandising intranet site: Post Visual Merchandising directives and bulletins for stores to use. Maintain intranet site information as directed by the Visual Director.
- Visits Navy Exchanges to teach and train VISUAL MERCHANDISING standards.
Planning and Budgeting:
- Responsible for the production of purchase orders.
- Assisted the senior graphic and design specialist in the design, development, and budget requirements for seasonal and departmental decor programs-issued guidance for stores following the VM timeline.
- Serves as Project Director for major and minor projects. Attends all meetings between codes regarding each project. Provides input on store layout and adjacencies. Understand floor plans. Coordinates all equipment and budget requirements for a project. Works with all departments to ensure that store requirements are met. Coordinates delivery of equipment on a timely basis. Responsible for the communication of Visual Merchandising programs to stores. Executes color-coded floor plans.
- Attend Visual and merchandising markets to keep abreast of VISUAL MERCHANDISING techniques and trends; conduct negotiations with manufacturer representatives and/or vendors for the purchase of VISUAL MERCHANDISING materials.
- Arranges vendor meetings annually to review new product and develop prototypes.
- Serve as Contracting Operative Representative (COR) to generate contract specifications for VISUAL MERCHANDISING programs.
- Solicit co-op for new programs requiring VISUAL MERCHANDISING elements.
- Prepares presentations to Nexcom, District, and Stores.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires a total of six years as indicated below:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience gained in administrative, technical, or other responsible work, which enabled the applicant to gain an understanding of VISUAL MERCHANDISING techniques and methods and skills in the area of attractive display, merchandise presentation, and in-store signing.
OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Three years of progressively responsible experience which provided a knowledge of VISUAL MERCHANDISING techniques and practices; display and presentation of merchandise and signing; maintaining equipment and materials; layout and installation of fixtures; and providing technical assistance; or similar work which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities of VISUAL MERCHANDISING, display, and in-store signing.
