Job description

Under the general supervision of the Deputy District 9 Director for Right of Way, Project & Asset Management, the incumbent serves as Project Manager (PM) responsible for the delivery of assigned capital projects, which may include special and locally funded projects. Incumbent ensures that the projects are completed in accordance with the approved scope, schedule and budget. The PM will have responsibility from the Project Initiation Document (PID) through the completion or closeout of the project. The PM will have authority over all project team members for cost, schedule, and coordination of work. The PM will coordinate with local partners regarding projects and represent District 9 Project Management demonstrating transparency and accountability.

Working Conditions

Position located in Bishop, Inyo County.


The majority of the work performed while in office assignments will be in a climate-controlled office environment and within a work cubical or work area under artificial lighting.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Land Surveyor is required.

The SOQ should address the following questions:
  • Provide specific examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to communicate, collaborate, and engage with community groups, partner agencies, and elected officials that resulted in positive outcomes.
  • Provide examples of your previous work experience that effectively demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the project management process, from project initiation to design and construction.
  • Please describe any previous work experience that demonstrates your experience managing complex projects including creating project plans and schedules, tracking progress, and delivering project milestones on schedule.
