Other Conditions: We are temporarily located at the Manoa Innovation Center. Position is annually renewable every July 1 contingent on performance and availability of funds. This is not a remote position.
Duties and Responsibilities

- **Promotes and assists with leading Technology Development programs to support cross-disciplinary collaborations, developing new industries, training and growing the local workforce in Hawai`i.
- ** Able to communicate effectively at a technical level with university researchers, technical experts and with business partners.
- ** Is able to design, direct and implement innovation and entrepreneurial programs, including programs focused on using UH innovation and intellectual property to develop commercial products and services, and various funding opportunities. Researches and applies methods for program improvements.
- ** Creates and implements educational workshops. Develops timelines and program goals. Advises and mentors program participants. Manages multiple cohorts of startups. Manages multiple consultants and contractors.
- ** Develops and executes programming such as hackathons, innovation sprints and educational workshops.
- ** Design and deliver educational content, coaching and support to capture Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) funding.
- ** Plans, coordinates, executes, and attends program activities and events. Develops procedures. Addresses any issues and assures the quality of all activities and manages small teams effectively.
- ** Has a working understanding of the lean methodology, Business Model Canvas, and other startup up frameworks. Able to design and hold a workshop with business startups.
- ** Recruits and assists with leading partners, advisors, mentors, participants, and volunteers for program activities through presentations, meetings, and events. Serves as liaison and resource for stakeholders.
- ** Establishes, maintains, and fosters relationships with internal and external partners and other contacts in the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Research organizations and businesses for potential partnerships.
- ** Collaborates on outreach and engagement efforts for program activities and events.
- ** Collaborates with OIC and program staff to accomplish program goals.
- ** Analyzes data and develops inferences and conclusions. Drafts reports and papers.
- ** Identifies funding opportunities to support innovation and entrepreneurship programs. Prepares and drafts grant proposals and ensures grant outcomes are met.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Science, Business Administration, or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in program or program management, planning, and hosting events, and developing and implementing innovation and entrepreneurial programming.; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of private and federal funding sources such as Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with federal grant programs and its funding sources.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Considerable experience with working alongside startups and the entrepreneurial ecosystem to support a wide range of startups especially with scalable science based startups.
- Understanding of financing options for startups and entrepreneurs and has experience crafting pitch decks with startups.
- At least 3 years of experience working in startup, venture capital and/or entrepreneurship ecosystems.
- At least 2 years of experience meeting grant outcomes.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and higher education institutional rules and procedures.
- Understanding of business and government practices in Hawai`i, nationally and internationally.
- Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop organizational processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
- Familiarity with Hawaii's innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- Experience in lean startup methodology.
- Experience working with UH or other higher education institutions.
- Experience with strategic planning.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience working in a non-profit.
