This position is for a Technical Project Manager (TPM) for the Advanced Technology Development (ATD) – External Programs & Physiological Monitoring team within Advanced Technology (Avionics Engineering) at Collins Aerospace.  The TPM serves as a co-lead for Research & Development programs alongside a Principal Investigator (PI). The TPM will enable the PI to perform technical tasks by managing external customer engagements / deliverables, managing team coordination amongst subcontractors, and arranging demos for internal and external audiences. The TPM will work directly with the PI and Program Manager (PM) to drive technical team requirements, provide customer deliverables (such as Program Management Reports or Final Reports), and contribute to overall program capture strategy.

The Physiological Monitoring & External Programs team on ATD is cross-functional and composed of systems and software engineers with a variety of expertise. Areas of near term focus include development and application of current, next, and future technologies for both the commercial and military autonomy problem spaces. This is a unique position where every day will be a little bit different with new challenges and problems to be solved allowing you to use a diverse set of skills and continue to learn new ones. This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Relocation assistance may be available.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Co-Leading the technical development of Research & Development projects
  • Managing a group of systems and/or software engineers within an Avionics development project (including Subcontractors)
  • Working with the Program Manager to create and maintain estimates of schedule, budget and staffing while ensuring the project remains on schedule and within budget.
  • Pursuit/bid leader for proposals and/or customer requested budgetary estimates.
  • Reporting overall engineering performance, including areas of Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Account Management (CAM), Risk Management
  • Analyze data and determine appropriate actions to correct real problems before they impact overall program.
  • Working with the military and commercial customers in a professional manner
  • A strong communicator with others, both written and verbal.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
  • Demonstrate self-starter personality traits as well as the ability to work autonomously.
  • Understanding of basic cockpit instrumentation/procedures and experience with military and commercial customers.

​Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading Research & Development external pursuits.
  • Experience coordinating across department and business unit boundaries to assemble engineering solutions.
  • Prior experience with developing TRL 2-6 technologies.
  • Experience leading mid to large development teams.
  • PMP certification

This role is also eligible for the Re-Empower Program.
