W&I provides high-quality taxpayer assistance, and enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns and make paymentsSee "Other Information" for LocationsResponsibilitiesWHAT DOES A SENIOR TAX ANALYST DO?A Senior Tax analyst serves as an analyst which plans, coordinates, and conducts analytical studies, and projects.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing technical and analytical staff work. You will be required to oversee programs which include business rules and requirement development (including coordination and negotiation with Information Technology (IT)), strategic planning, business systems planning, customer account services, taxpayer education and communications, data analytics, and administrative support. You will also be required to use technical knowledge of mission-oriented policies and procedures to meet the needs and gain the acceptance and cooperation of multiple levels of organizational and IT (including Enterprise Systems Testing) leadership.As a Tax Analyst you will: Develop and interpret guidance on tax law, program planning, execution,accounts management, field assistance, taxpayer education, communication functions and/or Wage and Investment Organizations.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) relative to the function.Study problems facing operating unit functions or those of particular concern within the organization assigned.Conduct high level analysis of systems and SQL queries to assist with enhancement and improvement opportunities for accurate implementation of tax lawsLead organizational participation in tax law implementation to ensure requirements, development, testing, and functionality meet the needs of the organizationDevelop alternatives and mitigation strategies for the roll-out of systemic solutionsWrite project and procedure risk assessments to ensure all levels of management have full visibility to inherent risks for operational changesWrite Formal Documents to address technical issues for use in legislative responses, Commissioner inquiries, and project proposals WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT OTHER IRS CAREERS?

Specialized experience for this position includes: demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of IRS functions, programs, policies, regulations, procedures, and operations to conduct reviews; Skill in recognizing significant tax issues and enforcement changes in order to develop new or revised procedures or products for assigned programs; Expert knowledge of a wide range of analytical and evaluative methods in order to develop new approaches to existing programs such as compliance, accounts management and/or taxpayer education and communication functions; Experience using comprehensive knowledge of the principles of management planning, program and process analysis to develop, design, and implement new or revised policies and procedures; Skill in oral communication to present plans and proposals to individuals and groups, including top-level managers and field employees, as well as, skill in written communication is necessary to prepare comprehensive written reports, disseminate policy information, and document findings and conclusions.

In addition, your experience must be sufficient to demonstrate the ability to provide guidance, and serve as a technical program and policy expert to be able to prepare complete decision packages, studies, and major recommendations.-The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service.
