Senior Tax Advisor

Santos is an Australian based oil and gas operator that operates a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaska North Slope, USA.

Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day. Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play an important role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk.

The project is currently in the execution phase, with 1st oil targeted in mid-2026. The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years. The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska.

This role is part of the Finance Digital & IT Function that supports the Business Unit through, the provision of financial services, tax advice and compliance, risk management and technology requirements.

In addition, this role will be responsible for maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as joint venture partners, the Alaska Department of Revenue and the USA Internal Revenue Service.

The Senior Tax Advisor assists the Senior Tax Manager with actively managing the OSL Group's portfolio of Tax Advisory, compliance, and risk management activities related to indirect tax types through the provision of accurate, timely and commercially effective advice and project execution in the USA. This primarily includes Alaska state oil and gas production tax and property taxes. This role:

• Seeks out and resolves indirect tax issues that impact the Alaska Business Unit through the provision of commercially actionable solutions within the requirement of the law and the business needs.
• Proactively engages with joint venture partners, the Alaska Department of Revenue, and the Tax Preparer to develop transparent and mutually beneficial relationships.
• Directs financial systems and processes that support indirect tax compliance, reporting and audit in the Alaskan Business Unit.
• Provides training and support across business units to accurately capture indirect tax related data, identify and manage tax risks and deliver timely tax compliance.

• Identifies and implements process improvements in relation to indirect Tax Advisory, risk management and compliance across the Alaskan Business Unit and corporate support services.
