SOFWERX Senior Systems Administrator
SOFWERX was established under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) between the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and DEFENSEWERX (DWX). SOFWERX is a platform designed and operated to increase collaboration and innovation, as well as explore, experiment, and assess promising technology for USSOCOM. Its growing eco-system includes both traditional and non-traditional problem solvers with a focus on new, novel, and provocative capabilities.
Role:
Serve as the Senior Systems Administrator for SOFWERX in Tampa, Florida. The Senior Systems Administrator will ensure successful implementation of the Director’s information system objectives in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. Provide technical advice to the SOFWERX senior leadership on application and implementation of systems, network, hardware, and software solutions. Implement and monitor systems performance and provide training on new systems and software. Understand the condition and status of the overall systems, network, and infrastructure. Maintain, update, and provide recommendations on existing systems. Reports directly to the SOFWERX Software Developer and informs the SOFWERX Deputy Director, both in Tampa, Florida.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with SOFWERX Senior Staff and USSOCOM to ensure Director’s information system and network objectives are achieved.
- Manage assigned budgets and provide cost estimates for new IT-related proposals.
- Ensure that SOFWERX systems and network operate effectively, are adequately resourced, and monitored for network status.
- Provide timely reports, recommendations, and support requests to the SOFWERX leadership regarding the status of critical infrastructure and information system resources.
- Ensures 3rd party systems are functional and working as intended; these systems include access control, VOIP service, and facility emergency services.
- Primary contact for facility and security related emergencies.
- Manage and maintain Physical Security Access Control systems, including doors, cameras, and alarms.
- Ensure staff training is scheduled and delivered for any new software systems.
- Diagnose, correct deficiencies, and manage physical and cloud networks.
- Build, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware enhancements, application deployments and infrastructure upgrades.
- Develop and implement containerization strategies using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Podman.
- Assist with the design and development of automated deployment pipelines.
- Perform technical troubleshooting on IT and related infrastructure through established diagnostic techniques and end-user feedback.
- Provide systems, software, hardware, and network enhancements or recommendations.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a System Administrators and an Academic Intern to maintain, correct, and/or enhance IT infrastructure and other computer systems.
- Make timely decisions at the appropriate level and inform the SOFWERX Senior Staff on those decisions or actions.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
- Education: BS or BA degree desired.
- Must have a minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of experience in system and network administration.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Networks, Microsoft 365 / Intune administration, Containerization, and Data Management.
- Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems and scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Shell.
- Experience with cloud platforms and solutions in AWS
- Proficient in working with Cloud DevOps and Cloud DevOps pipelines.
- Desired certifications: CompTIA Security+, Microsoft 365 Certified, DevOps related certification
- Excellent ability to quickly identify and resolve problems, demonstrating an aptitude for effective troubleshooting. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be willing and able to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
- Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
