Senior Staff Engineer, Failure Analysis

Job Summary

The Senior StaffFailure Analysis Engineer will primarily be tasked with performing electrical and fault isolation Failure Analysis on field returns, prototype builds, qualification failures, yield failures, and new product development on RF and mixed signal CMOS products.  This role will be seen as a technical leader, leading efforts in developing new capabilities/efficiencies (tools, techniques, resources) for the Failure Analysis group, and providing support for more junior engineers.

The assigned tasks will be diverse and complex in nature which requires exceptional organization skills and high attention to details. This position will need to exercise sound judgment in methods used to solve complex problems and in the evaluation of the results.  

Roles & Responsibilities

This position has responsibility for:

• Perform preliminary Failure Analysis as needed, including: external visual examination, scanning acoustic microscopy, radiographic examination, and bench testing etc.
• Perform fault isolation to identify failure mechanism(s) on complex analyses utilizing schematics, layouts, FIB microprobing, PEM, XIVA, etc.
• Perform electrical bench testing and interpret ATE datalogs to aid in localizing electrical failures
• Develop, characterize, and optimize FA techniques and tools to advance FA capabilities and efficiency
• Work with designers and engineering groups to isolate root cause of failure
• Generate detailed Failure Analysis reports for both internal and external customers
• Expert at fault isolation techniques such as PEM, XIVA, and thermal emission
• Lead/Mentor other engineers in fault isolation and electrical techniques as needed

Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Skills)

• Typically requires 8 to 12 years of experience in semiconductor (IC) Failure Analysis engineering, product engineering, characterization engineering, semiconductor process engineering or design, depending on education level and experience
• Expert knowledge of advanced IC Failure Analysis methodology, tools and techniques
• Proficiency in handling a large volume of requests
• Heightened awareness of the importune and prioritization of analyses and capability to achieve desired results
• Strong ability to develop comprehensive reports with clear communication of the results
• Knowledge of IC semiconductor physics
• Knowledge of IC semiconductor processes
• Knowledge of IC packages and processes
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Preference for working in a collaborative group and cross-functional team environment

$137,812.54 - $192,950.79 per year
