Maxar Space is seeking a Sr. Space Electronics Hardware Design Engineer to join our Bus Electronics Design team. This is a hybrid on-site position located in San Jose, CA.
The Bus Electronics Design team is responsible for the hardware that powers Maxar's reputable, reliable, high-powered spacecraft for global commercial missions as well as a broad range of civil, defense and intelligence missions for the U.S. government. Our spacecraft enable earth observation, communications, and interplanetary space exploration such as the Psyche mission and the Gateway Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) in partnership with NASA.
The Sr. Space Electronics Hardware Design Engineer will be responsible for both developing new designs and sustaining existing products for MAXAR spacecraft.
Responsibilities
- Act as the senior engineer responsible for both developing new designs and sustaining existing products for MAXAR spacecraft, from requirements definition and concept through build qualification and integration onto the spacecraft.
- Troubleshoot flight hardware non-compliances and on-orbit anomalies, and perform root cause analysis on high visibility issues.
- Design, Analyze, and Test power electronics and analog hardware for use in spacecraft.
- Generate trade studies, oversight of schematic capture and layout, perform hands-on prototyping and bring up of designs, write and conduct test plans.
- Key contributor to Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), and Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM), directly interfacing with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Proactive collaboration with entire cross-functional team to drive project success, including mechanical design, automated test development, product manufacturing and test, reliability and space environments, project management, and procurement.
- Will require traveling to support off-site testing on an as needed basis.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science or a related field.
- 5] years experience minimum, with a focus on discrete design of analog and power electronics.
Desired Qualifications
As a successful contributing team member at MAXAR, desired qualifications will include:
- Isolated and non-isolated DC/DC converter design ranging from 5V output to 300V output, 15W to 5kW, and modular / current sharing considerations for high efficiency and thermal.
- Design experience ranging from discrete component selection, filter design, driver design, feedback compensation, and layout for EMC, with considerations for reliability, redundancy, and FMECA.
- Analysis experience ranging from Worst Case Analysis (WCA), circuit stress and derating analysis, simulations and modeling with SPICE and Simplis/Simetrix or similar.
- Magnetic design, analysis, and simulation, with considerations for design construction and manufacturability.
- Hands-on experience with proper measurement and troubleshooting techniques for analog and power electronics circuits in a lab environment with lab equipment.
Attention to detail, with proactive problem-solving and strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:
$97,000.00 - $161,000.00 annually.
