By leveraging cutting-edge virtual care tools, the VA Office of Connected Care (OCC) enhances Veterans' access to healthcare beyond conventional office visits, offering more flexible options for managing their health. We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer passionate about crafting high-quality solutions for a position on the OCC platform’s team. This team is responsible for assisting other application and service teams by developing and supporting internal tooling. The position offers the chance to tackle diverse technical challenges and contribute significantly to the success of OCC. It is ideal for those who value continuous improvement and learning.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain base container images used by other OCC teams.
- Provide support for tooling used by other teams (SonarQube, Jenkins, etc.). This will include troubleshooting issues, performing upgrades, and developing plugins and integrations with these tools.
- Research and evaluate new technical approaches and tools, sharing insights with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Act as a senior technical resource, offering guidance and support to less experienced team members.
- Develop custom solutions for the client to automate processes and workflows.
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of Linux fundamentals.
- Experience with container-related technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience developing custom software solutions for clients.
- Senior-level knowledge in one of the following programming languages: Java, JavaScript, Go, C#, .NET, Ruby, or Python.
- Proficient in oral and written communication, able to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Qualifications and Skills
- Agile development experience
- Strong communication skills, demonstrated ability to interact professionally and courteously with customers (via email and video conferencing)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with a variety of programming languages and technologies
- Experience with containerization and deployment using tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Continuous integration experience (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo)
- Experience with Atlassian tools such as Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence
- Linux/Bash shell scripting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math or engineering
- Additional skills that will set the candidate apart
- Experience with databases such as Oracle, MySQL and MongoDB
- Experience with environment configuration tools such as Consul and Vault
- Experience with mobile development (iOS and Android)
- Able to work independently while interacting with other remote team members throughout the day via Slack, email and conferencing
- Capable of passing a federal background investigation for the position of public trust and/or able to obtain a security clearance.
