Position Description Summary
APT Research is hiring a Senior Software Airworthiness Engineer to conduct software safety, airworthiness, and mission assurance evaluations for DoD aviation systems in support of the Future Vertical Lift aircraft program at Redstone Arsenal, AL.

Specific responsibilities include:
· Performing Software Airworthiness analysis throughout the software life cycle from initial requirements through design, implementation, testing, delivery, and support
· Utilizing excellent written and oral communication skills to maintain successful daily interaction with customer and teammates
· Operating proactively with ability to handle significant responsibility
· Participating in technical reviews throughout the product lifecycle with a focus on software engineering
Required Experience/Education:
· Minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor of Science in Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field from an ABET-accredited program
· Relevant experience with DoD aviation systems, preferably attack, transport, and reconnaissance aircrafts
· Experience with programming languages, such as C, C++, or Ada
· Familiarity with Airworthiness Certification and Software Safety standards, e.g., MIL-HDBK-516, DO-178, MIL-STD-882, JSSSEH, AMCOM Regulation 385-17, SAE ARP 4761, or similar
· Familiarity with Risk Assessment and Risk Management
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Security Clearance Requirement:
· ACTIVE security clearance
Preferred Experience:
· Knowledge of the Software/Systems Development process and lifecycle
· Experience developing embedded mission critical software in C, C++, or Ada
· Knowledge of the integration and verification of large systems
· Experience with Model Based Software Development
· Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) and Reusable System Components (RSC)
· Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink, DOORS, SCADE, etc.
· Knowledge of the Airworthiness Release (AWR) process
· Knowledge of Army Military Airworthiness Certification Criteria (AMACC) or MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria
· Knowledge of static and dynamic code analysis
Essential Job Functions:
Work Environment:
· Work will be performed in a hybrid environment, including telework and on-site at SRD facilities on Redstone Arsenal.
· Requires occasional in-person attendance at project-related meetings
· Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
· Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
Travel Requirements:
· Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%
Physical Requirements:
· Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk
Other Essential Functions:
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement
· Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
