Job Description:

Our Company is currently seeking exceptional chemists for a Senior Scientist position within the High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) group in the New Jersey Discovery Chemistry Department located in Rahway, New Jersey. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative cross-functional team of scientists whose mission is to fundamentally change the way new medicines are invented. Leveraging our company's world-leading Center for High-Throughput Experimentation, the successful candidate will apply their knowledge and experience in synthetic chemistry to discover and develop innovative, high value synthetic methods to advance Discovery Chemistry programs across all modalities including macrocyclic peptides, target protein degraders and small molecules. The successful candidate will join collaborative, multidisciplinary discovery teams across our company's sites to invent novel medicines by merging the frontiers of data science and machine learning with medicinal chemistry, HTE and automation.

A mindset of Innovation and continual technological improvement is an important aspect of this role. Success across this spectrum of activities will require the application of the latest advances in chemistry to develop innovative approaches for addressing new chemistry challenges across multiple modalities. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills in a team environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Interacting with medicinal chemistry project teams, modeling and chemo-informatics experts, pharmacologists, and analytical chemists to design the highest quality chemistry approaches to macrocyclic peptides, target protein degraders and small molecules that will advance our company's drug discovery programs.

  • Creatively using deep knowledge of synthesis, chemo-informatics, and cutting-edge high-throughput experimentation techniques to rapidly solve medicinal chemistry problems of the highest complexity.

  • Innovating on the critical path to invent new synthetic methods to solve key program issues where existing methods are insufficient.

  • Apply data science techniques, including the use of machine learning and predictive modeling, to analyze large-scale experimental data and extract insights to drive iterative designs.

  • Building and keeping a strong presence the external chemistry community through high impact publications, external presentations and external collaborations.

  • Utilizing strategic thinking skills to help shape the vision of Rahway Discovery Chemistry to create a new paradigm for success in medicinal chemistry.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • PhD in Synthetic Organic or Organometallic Chemistry OR expected attainment of PhD in 2024 matching noted criteria.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Expertise in synthesis and modern catalytic methods

  • Proven ability to devise innovative solutions to challenging problems in synthesis and catalysis.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills and a proven record of solving complex problems in a team environment.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals

  • Experience in computer programming and/or data science

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. This Hybrid work model does not apply to, and daily in-person attendance is required for, field-based positions; facility-based, manufacturing-based, or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate's relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$111,400.00 - $175,300.00
