Position Summary
A Senior Scientist position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Helen McNeill, a well-established BJC Investigator in the Department of Developmental Biology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Our laboratory studies the role Fat cadherins in Hippo pathway-regulated growth control, planar cell polarity (PCP) tissue organization and metabolism. A second research area is to determine the function of Nemp1, a nuclear envelope protein, in female fertility. We work with both mice and flies to address these questions.
Position collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.

Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience; or a combination of education and experience equaling twelve years.

Salary Range
$62,200.00 - $112,700.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Remotely manage our mouse colony (handled by the Mouse Genetics Core) using XY colony.
- Analyze and organize genotyping results provided by the Mouse Genetics Core.
- Manage own research project around Fat cadherins and Nemp1 using mice and serve as a lead to move both projects forward.
- Develop hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
- Coordinate collaborative projects with other laboratories and/or Cores.
- Provide technical and experimental design support to more Junior Scientist.
- Assist the PI with grant and manuscript preparation.
- Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience working with mice and cultured cells.
- Demonstrated experience in biochemical processing (extraction, immunoprecipitation and western blot analysis) of mouse tissues and cultured cells.
- Proficient in confocal imaging of immunostained mouse tissues and cultured cells.
- Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
- Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to work independently or as a team member.
