Toeroek Associates, Inc. (Toeroek) is a growing business headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado that provides specialized environmental services to the Federal Government, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) efforts to enforce CERCLA (Superfund) and RCRA regulations.

The Senior Hydrogeologist plans, conducts and supervises scientific projects of major significance by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates under his/her supervision. The Senior Hydrogeologist provides technical review and analysis of complex scientific documents and leads teams in providing such analyses and manages task orders and client relationships. The Senior Hydrogeologist also supervises field operations, environmental drilling programs, safety programs, logistical support, data management, quality control and quality assurance, and facility inspections.

Duties

  • Conducts technical reviews of highly-technical documents prepared by facilities, states, tribes or other Federal agencies.
  • Evaluates complex groundwater contamination, fate and transport, work plans, remediation plans, monitoring and performance reports, ongoing remediation programs, and other technical issues.
  • Performs contaminant data evaluation, aquifer testing data and analysis review, groundwater flow and contaminant transport and attenuation modeling, and groundwater remediation system performance and optimization evaluation.
  • Performs soil gas data evaluation, vapor intrusion, and soil gas fate and transport evaluation and modeling, and soil gas remediation system performance and optimization evaluation.
  • Supports field activities, including both oversight of other contractors and performance of field activities, such as monitoring well installation, development, and sampling, borehole logging and geophysics, remediation system installation and start-up, etc.
  • Oversees specific tasks and requirements identified in a task order.
  • Schedules and assigns duties to staff research analysts, scientists and engineers based on evaluation of their knowledge of specific disciplines.
  • Confers with staff scientists, engineers and managers to formulate work plans, coordinates project activities, and establishes reporting procedures.
  • Prepares environmental work plans and task order progress reports.
  • Reviews technical aspects of projects to assist staff.
  • Performs peer review of technical documents and provides recommendations.
  • Reviews draft and final work products prior to client delivery.
  • Reviews project operations to ensure coordination of efforts and timely submission of reports.
  • Acts as a client liaison on technical and project status issues.
  • Conducts project meetings, internally and with clients.
  • Develops and maintains baseline budgets and schedules for assigned projects.
  • Prepares Statements of Work (SOW) for solicitation of proposals and procurement.
  • Reviews SOWs for the program.
  • Assists with development of technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Presents findings to the client, attends meetings with EPA, the facility representatives, and/or the public, and may also be an expert witness.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in hydrogeology, hydrology, or geohydrology, plus 12 years of directly related professional experience. Master's degree in hydrogeology, hydrology, or geohydrology, plus ten years of directly related professional experience preferred.
Ph.D plus a minimum of six years directly related experience desired.
P.G. or similar recognized geologist certification.
PMP desired.

Required Skills:

• Experience characterizing groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport in groundwater and soil gas;

• Experience using various fate and transport models, including High Resolution Site Characterization (HRSC);

• Experience designing and evaluating groundwater and soil gas remediation technologies;

• Superior writing is essential to this position. Excellent written and verbal skills;

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel;

• Attention to detail;

• Ability to function as a member of a team;

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;

• Ability to handle simultaneous tasks; and

• Ability to adapt quickly and smoothly to changing project requirements.

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of environmental regulations, specifically RCRA and CERCLA.

• Knowledge of GIS, including 3-D visualization (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS 3D Analyst tools).

• Experience with Monitoring and Remediation Optimization System (MAROS) v3.0 software, MODFLOW, AT123D, Johnson and Ettinger Model, and other software.

• Previous work at an environmental consulting firm is especially helpful.

• Task order or project management experience under federal contracts.
