What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will be part of Amgen's broad base of cytometry experience and skills that are applied to basic research that utilizes cell lines, human blood specimens or other relevant tissues. This is team-oriented, laboratory-centered role in a dynamic core facility. In this Sr. Scientist role, you will have the ability to calibrate and operate multiparameter flow cytometers (including cell sorters), microscopes & related imaging platforms with the additional ability to teach others and personally learn additional relevant skills as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and report instrument problems (flow cytometer analyzers, sorters & microscopes), perform basic troubleshooting / remediation and oversee field engineer remediation when required.
  • Compile high complexity multiparameter fluorophore panels that improve signal while minimizing fluorescence spillover and translate between cell analyzers, sorters & imaging platforms contained in the facility.
  • Manage junior FTE scientists and contract workers both within & between Amgen sites and to represent the laboratory to others within & outside Amgen.
  • Guide others to use the facility as well as to hold personal accountability for prioritized projects.
  • Evaluate and implement new analytical paths that leverage artificial intelligence & machine learning and to ensure that raw & analyzed data are secured within the larger Amgen data infrastructure.
  • Work in a biosafety level 2 plus laboratory environment, to maintain laboratory safety for everyone that accesses the laboratory and to initiate & complete risk assessments for new activities in the laboratory as appropriate.
  • Assess new technologies & make purchase recommendations to management as appropriate.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Masters degree and 3 years of flow cytometry experience

Or

Bachelors degree and 5 years of flow cytometry experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education in the life sciences; Prior experience working in a biopharmaceutical company or academic projects with a biopharmaceutical sponsor.
  • Good documentation practices & scientific conduct as defined by standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate varied AI/ML analytical platforms as they emerge into our industry & work in a team structure with data scientists in synergy.
  • A working knowledge of how to integrate flow & imaging cytometry efforts with adjacent single cell technologies (e.g., RNA seq, CRISPR screens, etc).
