As a member of the Lonza – Personalized MedicineClinical Application Team, the Senior Clinical Application Scientist works in a high-performing, cross-functional team with the goal of developing, transferring and supporting scalable manufacturing processes for cell therapies using a novel manufacturing system. TheSenior Clinical Application Scientist works with various global Lonza groups, clinical and research centers within their geographical territory, to assure progress and stability of cell therapy projects.

The Senior Clinical Application Scientistevaluates and recommends new technologies to enhance efficiencies of processes and scale. Routine activities include instrument demonstrations, customer trainings, and technical transfer of cellular therapy processes, while providing technical support and assay guidance to Personalized Medicine’s partners and customers. Also, generate reports, execute experimental studies, analyze data, support the execution of development and manufacturing activities, and provide additional support to other departments as required (Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Program Management).

This role is 100% remote with a significant amount of travel domestic and/or international travel.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plans and performs demonstrations and trainings for the Cocoon® Platform, eventual tech transfer of cell therapy processes, and ongoing support of Personalized Medicine customers/collaborators
  • Leads the build out of application based training regimen for use with newly onboarded clients
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the cell therapy field through continued research and trainings
  • Critically analyzes processes for improvement and scalability and proactively suggests changes to protocol and assists customers in experimental design
  • Facilitates scientific meetings between client and internal R&D teams in an effort to acquire VOC, clients specifications and build out customer profiles
  • Utilizes expertise in upstream production, harvest, and recovery technologies to establish and optimize new processes for manufacturing
  • Capable candidate troubleshoots processes, compiles and analyzes data, and summarizes results in high-quality reports supported with appropriate laboratory records.
  • Independently designs and executes experiments. Interprets results and proposes next steps.
  • Helps create and revise task orders for contractual relationships. Supports new client development.
  • Delivers results in a timely fashion, communicates effectively, and maintains effective communication with cross-functional teams and collaborators
  • Supports a collaborative work environment through the sharing of knowledge and experience within his/her area of responsibility; Proactively sets up internal discussions across functional groups to relay data collected from field based experiments
  • Member of the customer support team, which assists with resolution of customer complaints and maintaining customer satisfaction. Works closely with client team to optimize cell manufacturing runs
  • Collects and relays customer complaints, feedback, and ideas to their appropriate departments.
  • Promotes the Cocoon® Platform to the cellular therapy community through seminars, conference attendance, contribution to publications, etc.
  • Supports application development efforts to build out suite of generic “off the shelf” protocols with an emphasis on magnetic cell separation

Key requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Biology, Immunology, or other relevant field required; PhD in Biology, Immunology, or other relevant field, preferred
  • 5 or more years of experience in cell therapy from a biotech or similar industry
  • Computer skills, MS Office
  • Comfort with hands-on work with capital equipment; Troubleshooting skills – electrical, mechanical, software
  • Laboratory skills relevant to production of cellular therapies – cell culture, flow cytometric analysis, bioreactor use, etc.
  • Extensive experience in magnetic cell separation technologies, cell activation approaches and gene modification techniques
  • Systematic and organized workflow
  • Ability to work in clean environments
  • Attention to detail; Thorough and clear documentation skills
  • Independent task management and ability to make decisions
  • Communication skills for relaying information to Lonza and customers
  • Valid passport/visa for international work

The full-time base annual salary for this remote position is expected to range between $108,000 and $126,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the location of the successful candidate, qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and job-related knowledge.
