General Notes
This position is a fixed two-year term. Expected to continue as long as start-up funds or grant funds are available to support the position.
Purpose
This position will assist the Research Director in overseeing a complex Research Program with high business impact and assist in getting research data to publication and with development of grant proposals. The position is responsible for providing a higher level of management responsibilities within the Matsui Research Group.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the work of research personnel within individual research projects across multiple studies. Will take the lead in interviewing and hiring and supervising multiple study personnel across multiple studies.
  • Responsible for oversight of Research Program activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of work, and assess quality and progress of programs with supporting data reports. Identify areas that need improvement, develop and implement plans for addressing the issues and monitor progress. Responsible for oversight of data collection processes and maintenance of data and provide QC/QA of RedCAP database. Assist with and/or supervise data analyst as needed.
  • Responsible for regulatory aspects of the Research Program, facilitating institutional review board (IRB) applications, submissions, and updates. Responsible for data safety monitoring plans and managing data safety monitoring boards, ensuring safety of human subjects. Provide necessary information and assist with NIH progress reports.
  • Responsible for reaching study recruitment goals and evaluating team members in this regard provide progress updates.
  • Ensure all studies are conducted according to applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines and adhere to standard operating procedures specified in protocol manual, to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and ensure staff adhere to study protocols and procedures and are up to date on training and certifications.
  • Manage scientific activities for the Matsui group including liaising with internal and external partners/collaborators, managing monthly Matsui Research Group meetings, and other meetings/activities as needed. Prepares reports and presentations and assists with manuscript writing. Other activities as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Master Degree and at least seven years of experience in public health, health services or clinical research. Experience hiring and managing teams, regulatory submissions, and data management. Skills in statistical analyses. The ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner; demonstrated use of excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must possess the ability to problem solve effectively and work independently. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish speaking. Experience in an academic health center and public health.
Salary Range
$78,000 + depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
